I can’t thank Cate and her husband Tyler enough for welcoming me into their home. It was such an honor to photograph them with their newest addition, their beautiful baby girl, Starling.
We started our session with family portraits, capturing the three of them together in those first tender weeks of becoming a family of three. I also made sure to focus on those precious father–daughter and mother–daughter moments that truly melt the heart. From there, we transitioned into prop poses and finished with tabled poses, creating a variety of images that celebrate both the delicate details of newborn life and the deep love surrounding this little one. All in the comfort of their own home!
Beyond the photographs, what really touched me was the conversation we shared. Cate and I talked about motherhood, the ups and downs of daily life, and those big, sometimes overwhelming questions we ask ourselves: Are we making the right decisions for our children? These are conversations I know so many parents can relate to, and it was a reminder that we are never alone in these thoughts and feelings.
As I grow in this work, I feel called to use my blog not only to share sessions but also to share resources that may support families on their journeys. One topic that is close to my heart is postpartum mental health. Did you know that most women experience postpartum depression in some form? It can look very different for each mother and can even surface months—or years—after giving birth. It’s something that is rarely talked about openly, but so many parents are walking through it quietly.
If you or someone you love is navigating these feelings, please know that support is out there. The Rockland EarlyON Centre offers incredible programs and resources for families, from playgroups to parenting support, and can also help connect you with the right services if you’re struggling. You can find them here: Rockland EarlyON Centre
Motherhood is beautiful, but it is also hard—and it’s okay to admit that. I hope by sharing not only these sweet moments from sessions but also resources and reminders, this space becomes a place of encouragement for parents.
Thank you again, Cate, Tyler, and sweet Starling, for inviting me to capture this special chapter of your lives.
