When Miko’s mom reached out asking if I’d be interested in trying out for the photographer position for his hockey team, I had to pause for a second. Sports photography isn’t something I had dipped into before, so I wanted to make sure it was the right fit for me. After a little research—checking out styles, setups, and whether I had the gear to make it happen—I found myself getting inspired.
That inspiration led me to invest in two wand lights to help create the dramatic look I had in mind. Paired with a 4-light setup, the results blew me away. Honestly? I’m obsessed with how these portraits turned out.
This wasn’t my first time working with Miko—he’s been in front of my camera before during his family’s Christmas minis. At just 10 years old, he’s full of character, confidence, and a great mix of fun and focus. That energy translated perfectly into these hockey portraits, giving them the exact spark I was hoping for.
What started as “let’s try this out” has now turned into a whole new spark of creativity for me. Miko’s session not only gave us some epic portraits—it also inspired me to start exploring the world of sports photography. I can honestly say I’m excited to start capturing the art of performance in a whole new way.
